Wisdom, a social audio app focused on exposing “life advice” and expanding access to mentorship, has received $2 million in preliminary funding. First Round Capital is leading the seed round, with several business angels joining in.
The U.K.-based startup isn’t saying how many people have downloaded its take on social audio so far. But it says mentors on the platform have shared 600,000 minutes of “insights and guidance” so far, with 2.3 million minutes of listening in the eight weeks since the app’s official launch.
“We believe social audio is in its infancy, and it has been great to join Dayo [Akinrinade, Wisdom’s founder and CEO] and witness firsthand her vision for Wisdom. Wisdom taps into some important trends, from social audio to algorithm-friendly design, all while reflecting just how powerful and impactful communities that feature a range of voices can be, helping to give diverse and overlooked people access to high-quality mentorship.”First Round Capital on the seed raise.
According to the company, this seed fund will be used to develop a product roadmap, including features to increase community interaction. It’s also working on an Android app due early in 2022. Its to-do list includes introducing direct conversations, improving its AI algorithms for search and discovery, and monetizing mentors.
