Telefonica and Oracle announce collaboration to assist Telefonica in cloud adoption

Oracle and Telefonica Espana announced a multi-year partnership today to accelerate the telecom company’s cloud adoption. The partnership is part of Telefonica’s multi-year effort to consolidate the technology infrastructure that underpins its communications network.
Telefonica will migrate the majority of its Oracle Database systems to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer, constructing an on-premises dedicated cloud platform to support the provisioning and delivery of new services, as well as Telefonica’s mission-critical operational and commercial systems, including its BSS and OSS platforms and applications, business intelligence systems, CRM, billing, and revenue management.

The collaboration is part of Telefonica’s multi-year initiative to consolidate the technology infrastructure that underpins its communications network into a shared, open-standard platform to support its expanding digital services portfolio, which includes new Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G services, as well as services co-hosted with ISVs and network partners.
Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer is an on-premises deployment option of Oracle Exadata Cloud Service delivered as a managed cloud service in Telefonica’s data centers, allowing Telefonica to consolidate mission-critical systems in a single platform while adhering to data residency regulations, meeting latency requirements, and significantly lowering operational costs.
