R2C has raised $27M in a Series B funding round led by Felicis Ventures and has also announced the integration of its open-source product, Semgrep, with GitLab SSAT

San Francisco’s r2C, a software security startup, has announced the raise of $27 million in a Series B funding led by Felicis Ventures with participation from existing investors Redpoint Ventures and Sequoia Capital. Alongside the funding, it announced on its official blog that its open-source product, Semgrep, would now integrate with GitLab.

The previous funding round for the company was in 2020, where it raised $13 million. R2c’s total funding with this round’s close stands at about $40 million as per Crunchbase. It revealed that it has been working with the GitLab team for several months to integrate its product into GitLab’s Static Application Security Testing (SAST) for language-agnostic scanning and simplified custom rule development.

R2C, founded in 2017, builds high-tech tools for developers to help them fix issues. It states that if developers lack the necessary tools and are required to convince their higher-ups to spend millions on advanced security tools, the future would be bleak.

Commenting on the funding and integration, Issac Evans, co-founder and CEO of r2C, wrote on an official blog that the developments signified huge confidence in its technology and added,

This is a huge vote of confidence in our technology and approach that has really energized our team and been the focus of a lot of great collaborative work between r2c and GitLab. GitLab will be transitioning more analyzers to Semgrep, and we’re looking forward to continuing our work with them to make Semgrep available for more languages in GitLab SAST.
