Commerce Layer, which provides tools for the booming “Headless” commerce businesses, has raised $16M from Coatue Management in a Series B funding round. They eye business expansion and also adding tools onto their API library
Commerce Layer- a company that provides Application Programme Interface (API) for businesses to build e-commerce applications with their front ends- has raised $16 million in a Series B funding round led by Coatue Management.
Reports indicate that Commerce Layer would use the proceeds to expand its business and add more commerce tools into its API library. Coatue’s general partner Caryn Marooney shall join Commerce Layers’ board of directors with the Series B closure. Previous investors Benchmark and Mango Capital had participated in the funding round.
Headless is huge now
What Commerce Layer does can be compressed into two words: Headless commerce, where companies, after using a set of tools, can themselves build apps with their customized front ends for selling goods and services. Reports state that it has become a huge business, not just because such companies see a growth in demand for online purchasing, but also because they have been focusing on their own strategies- on how and what they present to the world.
At present, Commerce Layer provides tools to build one’s own mobile, wearable, voice apps, and point of sale (POS) solutions, subscriptions, and multi-vendor e-commerce models. They also provide services such as building your own shopping carts and turning print catalogs into interactive, “shoppable” digital experiences.
Filippo Conforti, the CEO, and Co-founder of Commerce Layer states that they will create other features.
“On the roadmap are a new developer dashboard, a command-line interface (CLI) and order management system, and a hosted checkout application, metrics API, a reporting application, and better support for subscription and marketplace models.”Filippo Conforti, the CEO, and Co-founder of Commerce Layer
Commenting on the investment, Caryn Marooney stressed the significance of e-commerce in the daily lives of individuals.
“We believe that Commerce Layer is building the API platform for this new category, and we’re incredibly proud to join them in pursuing their ambitious and exciting vision,”Caryn Marooney
