Blackbird.AI, an AI-powered platform that combats disinformation, raised $10 million in a Series A funding round led by Dorilton Ventures to support hiring, scale-up engineering and sales teams, a press release from the company said.
The previous funding for BlackBird.AI came in February last year, where it netted $100000. New investors Generation Ventures, Trousdale Ventures, StartFast Ventures and Richard Clarke, former chief counter-terrorism advisor for the National Security Council, alongside its existing investor NetX participated in the funding round.
Blackbird.AI, founded in 2014, empowers analysts and decision-makers to respond quickly to harmful information campaigns by surfacing complex relationships and insights using numerous data points. Dr. Naushad UzZaman, CTO and co-founder of Blackbird, stated that BlackBird’s system deconstructs the massive flow of information and exposes the underlying dynamics through a combination of signals related to narratives and networks and added,
We combine novel adaptive AI with practical engineering that allows us to operate at internet scale to provide interpretable quantitative insights that help our clients understand what matters and what doesn’tDr. Naushad UzZaman, CTO and co-founder of Blackbird
Blackbird noted that the cost of disinformation and digital manipulation threats to organizations and governments is rising exponentially and is estimated to have been $78B in 2020. Also, its funding comes amid a recent partnership with Weber Shandwick.
Blackbird.AI stated that it would use the proceeds from the funding to fast-track new product development and accelerate platform adoption by global clients. Daniel Freeman, a general partner of Dorilton Ventures, stated that industrialized disinformation is the scourge of the digital world and added,
Until now, bad actors have operated with impunity from behind a cloak of confusion to distort reality for companies and private citizens alike. Dorilton Ventures is proud to partner with Blackbird.AI to build a powerful platform that tackles this problem algorithmically and at internet speed and scale. This is a disruptive and transformative business that will protect organizations’ media intelligence, reputation and, ultimately, their value. We look forward to sharing what promises to be a very successful journey with the Blackbird.AI team.Daniel Freeman, a general partner of Dorilton Ventures
