Acryl Data has come out of stealth mode, raising $9 million in a seed round led by 8VC, with LinkedIn and Insight Partners’ participation to help companies use their tools for their big data requirements. 

Swaroop Jagadish, co-founder and CTO of Acryl Data, announced the launch on his LinkedIn handle, thanked the investors and stated, 

I’ve seen first-hand the central role that metadata plays at Airbnb to achieve data excellence. We are excited to enable all data-driven companies to achieve the same level of excellence through our next-generation metadata platform powered by LinkedIn DataHub.

Launched in 2020, Acryl Data empowers data teams with trusted and compliant data through its next-gen metadata platform. Its technology is based on LinkedIn DataHub and Apache Gobblin. According to TechCrunch, the breakthrough for Acryl had come when they realized that metadata held the key to organizing big data information. In a statement to TechCrunch, Shirshanka Das stated that metadata has become a big data problem and added,

And so all of the data infrastructure DNA that we have, in terms of building large-scale data collections, streaming, indexing, searching, those all need metadata management solutions that can actually scale to the demands of the modern enterprise. That, I think, is really our secret sauce, that we’ve been able to build a metadata platform that takes in all the best practices of doing data infrastructure right and applied it to doing metadata infrastructure.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Igor Perisic, chief data officer at LinkedIn, expressed delight at partnering with Acryl Data and in continuing to advance DataHub by collaborating with them. Stating that LinkedIn’s unique view of the global economy helped it improve the economic outcomes for millions via data-driven insights and AI-powered solutions, Mr. Perisic added,
