2 Minutes with Melissa Kwan
What advice would you give 20 year old yourself.
When you are young, you just want to learn and meet people and go into jobs that make you learn more but you never think you have a choice. But you always have a choice and even if that’s the wrong choice, that’s the choice that you want at that
moment. That’s the great thing about choices; you can make them again and again and again. So how you want to lead your life today is not how you want to lead your life in 2 years or 4 years. The idea is to make designing your life a goal and that allows you to do 2 things. 1. Say yes to things that take you closer to the goal and 2. to say “no” to things that don’t. But if you don’t have the goal, then you’re just doing whatever comes your way. That’s fine but not very fulfilling!
What is your most significant Learning at this point in time?
My biggest learning as an entrepreneur/ person who has started a company is to ask “What kind of life do you want to lead?” because your company will become your everything. It will dictate your whole life your schedule, friends, how you feel in the morning and if your company does not support the life that you want to live, then it is going to be a very difficult journey. It could be something as simple as, “I want to live in Thailand and have a remote team”; You should then not start a company that requires you to be in San Francisco. You should go there now and figure out the company that supports that. That’s what I didn’t do and always made me feel that something was missing.
